PEER REVIEW & VALUE ENGINEERING
Nsient can provide a peer review or value engineering of an existing engineering design to assess structural adequacy or identify possible cost savings.
Some areas which could provide direct cost saving for the client can be found by:
- Review of the Structural Scheme – Often substantial savings can be made by altering the structural scheme. This could be achieved by changing column locations in order to allow the slab to work more efficiently and reduce the slab thickness. This does not only provide cost savings for the concrete slabs, but by reducing the overall building mass this can also provide potential savings for the concrete footings.
- Post-tensioned slab design – Nsient are specialists in post-tensioned slab design and regularly design slabs for specialist Post-tensioned slab contractors. There may also be benefits changing a previously designed conventionally reinforced concrete slab to a post-tensioned slab, and with our extensive slab design experience we can provide an well-informed recommendation of the potential cost savings.
- Retention design – Nsient have extensive experience in basement retention system design and have provided designs and dual certification checks for protection works for complex multilevel retention systems for basements.
STRUCTURAL CERTIFICATIONS
Prior to issuing a building permit, the relevant Building Surveyor can request that an independent certificate of compliance (dual certification) is required for the engineering design. Nsient work with the design engineer to ensure that the proposed design is in accordance with the current standards and building regulations to provide dual certification for your project.
Nsient Consulting Engineers have multiple Registered Building Practitioners in the office, allowing Nsient to provide dual internal certification (subject to the relevant building surveyor), this can significantly reduce the time associated with waiting for an external review, correspondence back and forth, updating documentation and final certification, allowing the building permit to be issued without unnecessary delays.
